Friday is Distracted Driving Awareness Day in Monroe County, and the county and AAA partnered on an event to teach how we can all be safe drivers.
According to AAA, the “100 Deadliest Days” of the year is between Memorial Day and Labor Day. During this time period, teen crash fatalities historically climb 15 percent compared to the rest of the year.
AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety’s latest study, Rates of Motor Vehicle Crashes, Injuries, and Deaths in Relation to Driver Age, analyzes crash rates for all drivers.
“They want to hang out with their friends and that’s all good,” said Elizabeth Carey, AAA’s Public Relations Director in Western and Central New York. “We’re just trying to remind people to avoid those distractions behind the wheel so we can change the phrase from the 100 deadliest days to the 100 safest days.”
