Investigators say they have found the man responsible for hitting a horse in Mendon with his vehicle and leaving the scene.

Deputies say Jeremy Dosiek has been ticketed for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving an animal. According to the sheriff’s office, Dosiek was identified on social media as the owner of the vehicle.

On January 4, deputies say Dosiek was behind the wheel when his vehicle hit and killed the retired race horse that had gotten past a gate and ran onto Mendon Center Road.

When speaking with deputies, Dosiek said he thought he hit a deer.

The horse was found dead by the owner.
