UPDATE (3:20 p.m.): Deputies say Richard Paige, age 62, was the man who attacked his neighbor before barricading himself in his home and later committing suicide overnight in Hamlin.

Deputies say Paige stabbed 36-year-old Adam Burley in the chest Sunday afternoon then refused to come out of his home when investigators responded.

That resulted in a multi-hour standoff that ended when deputies say Paige took his own life.

Burley remains in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.

UPDATE (3:20 p.m.): Investigators tell News 8 the suspect has taken his own life. Neighbors are being allowed back into the area as police finish up with the scene.
ORIGINAL STORY: Several homes on Curtisdale Lane in Hamlin are being asked to evacuate by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office as it deals with a man barricaded in his home on that street.
MCSO says that man is alone and has long guns and is threatening to use them.
SWAT members and a hostage negotiator are on scene.
This began around 1 p.m. Sunday after that man and a male neighbor got into a fight.
Deputies say the man stabbed his neighbor with a knife then ran into his home where he remains.
The neighbor was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital where he is in guarded condition and is expected to live.
Police have used a 911 calling system to alert neighbors to the situation and to ask that they evacuate, promising to help them find a place to stay for the night.
The evacuation request is not mandatory.
MCSO says if the situation lasts through the morning it could disrupt school start times.
They expect to hold another update at midnight.
