The Dentzel Menagerie Carousel at Ontario Beach Park has closed for repairs.
The Director of Parks for Monroe County, Larry Staub, posted on the county’s website on Friday that the carousel will be closed for the remainder of the season.
The 112 year old ride is not currently operational, according to the statement from Staub. He says staff observed that the ride appeared to be “skipping” on July 25, and was then closed to the public.
An expert who was called in for consultation advised that there was an issue with the crown bearing at the top of the ride, and that work needs to be done by an engineer.
“Our goal is to have our wonderful carousel back up-and-running for its 113th Season in 2018,” said Staub. “We love sharing this historic treasure with our community and can’t wait to have it back in service. Thanks for your patience and we apologize for any disappointment.”
