On Tuesday, the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs partnered with Edison Career and Technology Center and the Rochester Fire Department to demonstrate how home sprinklers work in a real fire situation.
Two rooms known as “pods” were set on fire — one protected by sprinklers, the other without.
“Yeah the sprinkler definitely extinguished it really quick,” said Dennis Knab, a construction trades instructor. “I think it was a great idea having them close together so we could see the actual difference between the two fires.”
The pod with the sprinkler system sustained very little damage, while the other pod was significantly damaged in the time it took firefighters to arrive.
