Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route or allow extra time at the intersection of Route 31 (Pittsford-Palmyra Road) and Mitchell Road/Hahnemann Trail in Pittsford for approximately a month beginning Wednesday.
Flaggers will direct alternating one-way traffic through the work zone on weekdays between the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Crews are in the initial steps of installing a new traffic signal at this intersection. During the next month, crews will be working underground, installing traffic control boxes and building an ADA compliant, concrete, sidewalk on the north side of Route 31.
The new traffic signal, expected to be functioning in the spring, will better control traffic at this high-volume intersection and help address a pattern of right-angle accidents. Pedestrian crossing indicators will be active on the north leg across Hahnemann Trail.
Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in work zones.
In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
