Del Lago Resort and Casino has agreed to a deal with daily fantasy sports company Draft Kings to provide sports wagering at the Seneca County casino, if the state approves regulations to allow gambling on sporting events.
The opportunity for sports betting in New York became a possibility following a Supreme Court ruling in May. However, Del Lago representatives say the state Gaming Commission has to issue regulations before it is allowed at casinos.
In a news release Monday morning, Del Lago says, if possible, Draft Kings would also allow online wagering. However, we’re told that would require a new state law.
“New York is one of the largest revenue opportunities for future sports wagering operators and we are thrilled to partner with del Lago Resort & Casino to offer sports fans a unique and novel sports betting experience, both at a physical sportsbook and on mobile when permitted,” said Jason Robins, CEO and co-founder of DraftKings, in a statement.
This is Draft Kings’ second deal with a casino on sports betting.
It’s not clear when exactly regulations from the Gaming Commission could be issued.
Correction: This story originally stated that legislation was needed for sports betting of any kind to be allowed in New York state. However, Del Lago officials tell News 8 a 2013 law allows for casinos to run physical sports books, but the Gaming Commission must issue regulations for that to move forward.
