There’s still time to enter the Great New York State Fair Drone Film Festival which will be accepting entries until June 30.
This is the second year of the competition and is open to all amateur, professional and corporate filmmakers who use video from drones in their work.
Festival Director Mike Massurin tells NewsChannel 9, “Some of this stuff is truly spectacular. You can’t get those type of scenes on the ground, you have to go up in the air and capture them and we’re just delighted to be able to provide the showcase for people to get involved and do something with it.”
There are nine categories in this year’s competition.
Massurin says, “This festival, whether you’re an amateur whether you’re a professional, whether you’re a company there is a category that is just right for you to enter into.”
He says its just one more element helping make Central New York and the Mohawk Valley UAS Central.
“We’ve got major research and development going on. You’ve got GENIUS NY, biggest incubator for UAV. You’ve got NUAIR Alliance that’s working to create this whole 50-mile corridor,” he says.
Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded in each category. The gold medal winners will also compete for the top prize, Best in Show.
The Best of Show winner will get a DJI Phantom Pro 4 drone, $250 and a plaque.
Winning videos will be screened at an evening ceremony in the Art & Home Center’s Empire Theater on Sunday, Aug. 26.
