Halloween is just about a month away and there are plenty of thrills and chills for the brave of heart in Western New York.
Starting Friday night, Darien Lake will be opening its doors again to welcome in crowds for after-dark fun at Fright Fest 2018.
“Fright fest is back and bigger and scarier than ever,” said Mary Loliger, PR Manager for Darien Lake.
Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through Halloween, guests can make their way through four scare zones that are free with admission, including the Freak Show Creep Show live entertainment.
Plus, there are three terrifying haunted house attractions you can enjoy for $10 each or $25 for all three. “They’re extra charge, but they’re extra scary,” Loliger said.
And, the scare-acters are all ready to give you your money’s worth, inside and outside the haunted houses.
Darien Lake staff say the thrills are not meant for children under age 13 because they can be too scary, but there are daylight activities for the little monsters in your life who still want to get in on some of the fun.
A handful of very brave Western New Yorkers have the opportunity to stay the night on property, too.
Following the lead of the Six Flags in St. Louis, Darien Lake is hosting a 30-hour coffin challenge, competing for cash and other prizes.
“What you do is on Saturday, October 13, starting at 1 p.m. you get in a coffin and you don’t get out for 30 hours,” Loliger said. “There are some bathroom breaks and meal breaks, various things like that, you get to have your phone a couple times throughout the day, but basically you get to hang out in a coffin overnight on property.”
Loliger says registration should open for that this weekend, and information will be posted on the Darien Lake website.
If the coffin challenge does not sound like your kind of fun, there are still plenty of other ways to get your heart pumping at Darien Lake this season.
One of the big highlights is the opportunity to ride all of the roller coasters with the lights off.
“It’s super thrilling,” Loliger said. “It’s definitely going to be a fun experience for our guests.”
