A new rollercoaster opened up Friday morning at Darien Lake.
The coaster, called the Tantrum, takes riders up 98 feet at a 90 degree angle before a 97-degree drop. Officials say the coaster goes up to 52 miles per hour. We’re told it is a “first of its kind” ride in New York state.
The description on Darien Lake’s website adds: “Reaching speeds of 52 mph, the coaster snakes through the structure over a bunny hop, keeps riders wondering which way is up or down during an Immelman turn, and finishes with a tilted loop.”
“Very excited to be opening this ride,” says Darien Lake General Manager Chris Thorpe. “It’s our first ride in ten years that we’ve put in. What’s unique to this attraction is that it’s straight up, beyond vertical.”

As part of Friday’s grand opening, officials also served up a special ice cream from Perry’s called “Tantrum Twist.”
Darien Lake opened for the season last month. Last week, it was announced that Six Flags has once again agreed to purchase the theme park.
