Dachshund Parade on Saturday, May 7

Local News

The 15th annual Dachshund Parade will be held Saturday, May 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Washington Square Park in Rochester.

J-P Altieri brought his dachshund Jake into the studio and discussed the event Wednesday on News 8 at Noon.  “It’s just a great way to celebrate and kind of embrace the fact that these are one of the greatest breed of dogs,” said Altieri.  He added, “We’re a little biased.”

Altieri attended his first Dachshund Parade without a dachshund, but that quickly changed.  He and his wife became the proud owners of Jake, who first appeared on News 8 as a puppy three years ago.

You can dress up your dachshund for the parade.  There will be contests for the oldest dachshund and farthest traveled.  Not surprisingly, the Dachshund Parade theme song this year is, “Everyone Loves a Dachshund.”  There will also be t-shirts and vendors.  Altieri noted this year you can pay for purchases with a credit card.

Organizers ask for a dollar donation per dachshund.  A portion of the proceed will aid Rochester veterinary organizations and other dachshund related causes.
