Cuomo calls for special session to take place

NEW YORK, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - Governor Cuomo is calling on State Senators to hold a special session before the next Supreme Court Justice takes seat.

The session would push bills that would strengthen abortion rights and create new gun control measures into law faster.

"I am sure if Judge Kavanaugh winds up on the Supreme Court, you can say goodbye to affordable healthcare, you can say goodbye to Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose," said Cuomo.

He continued, "I want to have it in state law. I want to make it so they have to overturn a state law, if they're going to actually trample state rights."

President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh is considered a intellectual powerhouse with a clear conservative judicial philosophy. He would replace the court's key swing vote Justice Anthony Kennedy.
