ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) — Crews removed a spire from the historic All Souls Chapel at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester on Thursday.
We’re told the spire is being removed so crews can fortify its base on the chapel. News 8’s John Kucko snapped drone photos as crews brought the spire down.
The copper-plated spire weighs about 800 pounds. It will be put into storage while the masonry work is completed.
The spire has been on the church since it was built in 1886.
The work is expected to take about four months. The work is part of a multi-year renovation project for the church.
Fittingly, Thursday marked the 2019 National Day of Prayer.
