Crews paint green line for St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Local News

The Saint Patrick’s Day Parade is Saturday and final preparations are being made for the big event.

Friday, the route was painted green to guide the seven Irish dance schools, 15 bands, floats, fire trucks and drum lines down East Avenue and onto Main Street in downtown Rochester.

The parade is one of the first outdoor events of the season, and despite the predicted cold, committee members are expecting a large crowd, eager to get out after a long winter.

“It doesn’t matter,” said Kate McBride, parade committee member. “It’s upstate New York, we’ve had all kinds of weather. It’s going be a great day.”

She adds, “I’m always impressed with the diversity of the crowd. It brings people out from all different walk of life, of all different ages. There really is something for everyone.”

News 8 will be marching in the parade on Saturday. Festivities kick off at 12:30 p.m.

If you are not able to make it, the parade will also be live streaming online at Rochesterfirst.com.
