Friday was a big milestone for the Town of Irondequoit: It broke ground on a new Department of Public Works facility.
The old building was destroyed in a fire on Christmas Eve 2016. Work got underway immediately to find a place to build a new facility. The land that was chosen was near the 590-104 interchange.
The town supervisor tells us they didn’t have many options.
Irondequoit Town Supervisor Dave Seeley says, “You need space for a Department of Public Works. When you look at our neighboring towns, they have those large plots of land. We simply don’t have that in Irondequoit. So, when we want to do something like this we have to get a little creative.”
Irondequoit has the second largest DPW in Monroe County. The new facility is expected to be completed by the fall of 2019.
