The annual Camp Good Days Courage Bowl Community Luncheon was held Thursday on the St. John Fisher campus.
Camp Good Days founder Gary Mervis announced the campers selected to serve as honorary coaches and cheerleaders during Saturday’s big game.
Mervis also presented former Buffalo Bills kicker Steve Christie with the Father Joe Lanzalaco Memorial Courage Award. This award is given to those who have been an inspiration to others.
Now one of the Camp’s biggest fundraisers, the Courage Bowl helps the organization offset the cost of services and activities for children coping with cancer and other childhood illnesses.
“It’s important in a number of ways because not only does it give exposure, it draws in two great football programs, two great schools together supporting one great cause,” Christie said.
The 13th Courage Bowl will be played between St. John Fisher College and the College at Brockport on Saturday. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. at Growney Stadium.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the stadium on game day or in advance by contacting Assistant Athletic Director Jennifer Granger at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at (585) 385-8315.
