Governor Cuomo has announced that road construction will stop during peak holiday travel times during the Christmas and New Year weekend.

The Governor’s notice says that all work behind temporary lane closures associated with road and bridge construction projects will be suspended from 6 a.m. Friday, December 22 until to 6 a.m. Tuesday, December 26. Some construction work behind permanent barriers or for emergency repairs may be done. Road construction will also be suspended from 6 a.m. Friday, December 29, through 6 a.m. Tuesday, January 2.

For those drivers traveling, the New York State Thruway Authority will offer free hot tea and coffee to travelers at the 27 travel plazas along the Thruway from 11 p.m. on New Year’s Eve through 7 a.m. New Year’s morning. This is a 47 year tradition to promote safe and alert driving.
