Congressman Morelle pushes for legislation to reduce veteran suicide

Local News
Every day nearly 20 veterans take their own life. Now there’s a new bill designed to address veteran suicide.
Congressman Joe Morelle visited Rochester Wednesday to push for legislation called the “Reach Every Veteran in Crisis Act.”

Morelle says Congress gave the veterans administation $6.2 million for suicide prevention outreach last year, but the VA only spent $1.5 million for that purpose.
The new legislation is designed to make sure the VA is doing its job and reaching out to vulnerable veterans.
“There are services out there for you and sometimes there’s comfort in knowing that other people are going through the same thing and that there’s help available,” Morelle said.
If you or someone you know needs to contact the National Veterans Crisis Hotline, the number is 1-800-273-8255.
