Hochstein Performance Hall held a tribute to local dance instructor Christopher Morrison who died from pancreatic cancer in January. The tribute was called Community Celebration for Christopher Morrison.
He taught modern dance at the Draper Center for Dance Education for years.
Morrison had such a wide influence and friend-spread from Midtown Athletic Club, to Borinquen Dance, to Garth Fagan Dance, to the Harley School, East High School, School Without Walls, the JCC, Rochester City Ballet, in addition to Hochstein.
The celebration had performances and tributes by many community members from these organizations.
One dance was with Sarah Andreacchi, Cheryl Johnson, and Nydia Padilla-Rodriquez, with accompaniment by Maria Hancock-Battista and Richard Delaney.
Morrison had a profound influence on Clara Ooyama as she struggled with gaining her equilibrium back after going through chemo treatment from pancreatic cancer.
“He will always be remembered for his positive light, devotion to dance, and infectious smile,” The Rochester City Ballet said. “Gone but never forgotten, we will miss you, Chris.”
