Cirque du Fringe is back with a brand new show for this year’s Rochester Fringe Festival September 14-23.
Creators Matt and Heidi Morgan discussed their new show “Eclectic Attraction,” and new family addition Wednesday during News 8 at Noon.
“There is a premise to the show that it’s sort of a date night for the two of us,” said Matt. “Heidi’s back. We recently had a son in real life, a child, so we don’t get out very much, so it’s a date. But then very quickly the show devolves into having a child and family and it becomes something else a little bit different. It becomes more of a dream sequence through the child’s eyes, and things like that, so there’s a little bit of a story line and a little bit of family, our personal family in the show.”
Heidi added, “And a lot of acrobats and aerialists and really cool characters that are doing really amazing things.”
The Morgan’s son may appear in the show as well. “He may make a cameo in the show,” said Heidi.
“If he’s willing,” added Matt. “If he’s crying, we’ll bring him out if he’s crying anyway. They say that the baby changes your lives, but we’re just going to try to change the baby’s life. Is that how it works?”
Cirque du Fringe can be seen in the Spiegeltent, at the intersection of Main and Gibbs Streets in Rochester. For the Morgans, it’s a favorite stop on the road. “The audiences here are spectacular,” said Matt. “They’re warm. They’re open. They’re generous. They’re caring. They’re giving. They want to participate. They want to see theatre. They want to see circus and that is a huge piece for us. The other side for us creatively, Erica Fee who runs the Festival, gives us a lot of creative freedom.”
Heidi said, “The Fringe itself is so exciting that this is happening in the U.S. I think it’s an inspiration for other U.S. cities.”
