A group of local kids battling cancer and sickle cell anemia got the chance recently to focus on fun instead of their illnesses.

We caught up with them at the Greater Rochester International Airport Tuesday morning as they returned home from Florida.

The kids, who are all members of Camp Good Days and Special Times, got to visit Disney World, MGM Studios, Universal Studios and even Sea World.

Camp Good Days founder Gary Mervis tells us it was a particularly great trip.

“So it’s a chance to be with those who really understand what it’s like to be you because they’re going through it themselves,” Mervis explained. “And for me, I’m like a proud grandpa making all of that happen.”

Mervis tells us, despite the lower than average temperatures for Florida, they couldn’t keep the kids out of the pool.
