The Emerging Artists Expo is back for a tenth year at this year’s Corn Hill Arts Festival July 14 and 15 in Rochester.
The deadline for entries is June 12.
Kristopher Kodweis, who won third prize in last year’s juried show for emerging artists at the Corn Hill Arts Festival, discussed his work and the benefits of participating Friday during News 8 at Noon.
Kodweis, who hails from Hilton, studied art at Nazareth College. “The educational background is very important, but for me more the artistic part of it,” he said. “I went for graphic design, and that’s very mechanical almost. The artistic part of it is taking those skills and pushing it further in other mediums that you might not ever really try to get into.”
When it comes artistic inspiration, Kodweis said patience is important. “It just kind of comes out of thin air! It’s kind of weird because you could be thinking for days, even months about something you want to do, but you don’t know how to do it just yet and sometimes it just comes to you. But the most important thing I’ve learned is that you have to change up what you’re doing in order to get different perspectives.”
Kodweis said it’s a wonderful feeling when someone connect to one of his pieces. Taking part in the 2017 Emerging Artists Expo at the Corn Hill Arts Festival, gave him a chance to have many people enjoy his talents, and he would encourage any young artist to take advantage of the opportunity this year. “Do it,” he said. “It’s the only thing I can say. I’ve had nothing but good experiences with it and good publicity, networking, getting my name out there.”
Emerging Artists will enjoy:
A platform to display an sell their work, including an exhibit booth
A central transaction site for purchases
Publicity and exposure to thousands of art lovers
Monetary prizes for first, second and third place in a juried show
