California man pleads guilty to flying to Rochester for sex with girl

Local News

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) — A California man has pleaded guilty to charges after prosecutors say he flew across the country to Rochester to meet with a girl he met online.

Gabriel Murillo, 44, of San Bernadino County, California, was arrested earlier this year at the Greater Rochester International Airport.

According to investigators, Murillo was involved in explicit online conversations with a person he believed to be a 12-year-old girl in upstate New York.

Police said Murillo attempted to groom the child and requested that she meet up with him for sex.

However, the person Murillo was speaking with was actually an undercover investigator with New York State Police. He was arrested shortly after walking off his plane in Rochester.

Murillo was charged with attempted online enticement of a minor. He now faces between ten years to life behind bars after the plea.

He will be sentenced in August.
