Summer is in full swing, and this week local high school seniors are becoming graduates. For some local businesses profiting off parties for high school and college graduations, this is their busiest week of the year.

Bob Spatola, owner of Spatola’s Party Rental said, “oh my gosh. There’s no comparison. There’s no comparison. I mean June is just a busy, busy, busy, month.”

Spatola’s company is supplying chairs, tables, and tents to 180 different events this week alone. He told News 8 he’s had to turn people away calling this week looking for last-minute rentals.

“We can’t extend ourselves beyond what our capabilities are. We have the equipment but you know unless my crews are going to be working 15 and 16 hours a day,” said Spatola.

To fill those tables, many people require catering services for their events. At Dinosaur BBQ in downtown Rochester, Catering Coordinator Jesse Caiazza’s taken phone calls for this weekend since last November.

“This weekend we call ‘D-Day’ cause it’s the biggest weekend of our summer. High school graduations, and then we’re still doing weddings, family picnics, reunions,” said Caiazza.

As you could imagine, Dinosaur’s smokers are firing up early, and often.

“The smokehouse starts at about 6 a.m. unloading all the smokers. Our staff usually gets here around 8 or 9 o’clock and then we’re pretty much unloading the food, packing it all up,” said Caiazza.

Caiazza said Dinosaur’s Rochester location has 100 catered events this coming Saturday and Sunday, and will likely be using staff from its Buffalo location for additional hands.

While they provide their services year round, both businesses say the summer dominates their sales, right up until the end of August…but this weekend is the one that brings home the bacon.

“It’s a crazy weekend, but we already have some things booked for next year,” said Spatola.
