There was a special open house held at School #50 Thursday night, as a collection of books for children from preschool through the eighth grade were made available to families as part of the annual Henderson Ford Book Drive.
The event was the largest one in the last seven years the event has been held.
“Reading is important and, you know, with all this technology and the phones, we just want to take it back to the core and have kids enjoy reading books,” said Operations Manager Aki Henderson. “So we make it fun we make it a big event and it’s very important for us to give back to the community in that way.”
Collection for the drive began in the early summer and ended September 15.
