State Police and Canandaigua Police have located the car belonging to a missing Canandaigua woman and a body.
Troopers say Monica Zello’s car was found in the Erie Canal near State Route 96A in Waterloo around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The State Police Under Water Recovery Team was able to retrieve the vehicle and tow it to land Wednesday morning.
Just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, crews found the body of a female about 20 feet from where Zello’s car was found.
“State Police Underwater Recovery Unit located a person that was in the canal in close proximity to the vehicle that was discovered earlier today,” Trooper Mark O’Donnell said. “We can’t definitively say, but based on the information, we have reason to believe it’s her.”
Zello, 29, of Naples, was last seen driving on Beeman Street in downtown Canandaigua on Nov. 18.
The coroners’ office will confirm the identify of the body.
