Earlier Wednesday, the City of Rochester held its fifth annual blood drive to honor Rochester Police Officer Daryl Pierson.
Officer Pierson was shot and killed in the line of duty in September of 2014, while chasing a suspect on Hudson Avenue in Rochester.
They say that this time of year blood donations are needed and each person that donates blood can help up to three people.
“This is incorporated with a regular blood drive that I run at the building. we schedule it so the folks that donate there can come out and then we opened this one to the public to try and get as many folks from outside to come in.”
The officers say that the event is a way to keep helping the public in Officer Pierson’s name.
