Bishop Kearney students take day off classes to volunteer

Local News

Students at Bishop Kearney, between the grades 6 through 12, gave back to various organizations instead of attending classes Monday.

Students volunteered on and off campus throughout the morning. Some of the activities included reading to elementary students, making Christmas stockings, and conducting a book drive.

“I really think they enjoy taking a step out of their classroom in a traditional sense and giving back to our community,” said Jason Simoni, Bishop Kearney principal. “They get to bond, they get to have a little fun so it’s a relaxed day, so they dress down which they love. But they do get a lot out of it when they see the impact on families and different community members work with.”

This is a tradition for the school and is the second time this holiday season the students have given back.
