Many drivers are dreading the stop at the pump these days. The average price of gas is just over $3 per gallon and it looks like it will stay that way.

Patrick DeHaan from Gas Buddy says it all comes down to competition factors and business expenses for gas stations.

“Even the whole sale price changes on a day to day basis and it can vary from supplier to supplier by a few cents a gallon,” said DeHaan.

More expensive gas means better gas right? DeHaan says to guess again.

“The foundation of gasoline, no matter where it is is very similar,” says DeHaan. “What can vary from station-to-station is what additives are added.”

DeHaan explains brands may have a different additives package, your car will run on either of those fuels. Whether you’re on the hunt for gas deals. or going to the closest station: If you have a car, you pay the price.
