Local News

The Rochester Police Department has reported the arrest of Jermaine Brown, 17, of Rochester in connection with the death of Ciara Grimes.

Police say that on May 9, at about 12:30 a.m., officers responded to 204 Delamaine Drive for the report of a person shot. Upon arrival, they located the victim, Ciara Grimes, 18, in the driveway suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to the URMC where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

During the investigation, police say it was learned the victim was shot inside of 204 Delamaine Drive.

According to police, she was brought outside and left in the driveway. The residents inside of the house refused to answer the door for police and were ultimately removed after the SWAT team made entry.

Officers say the suspect was identified as Jermaine Brown, 17 of Rochester. On May 15, Brown was taken into custody by the Tactical Unit without incident.

Officers say he has been charged with Manslaughter in the 2nd Degree, Felony Aggravated Criminal Contempt and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree.

According to police, Brown is charged with recklessly shooting Grimes with a .25 caliber pistol causing her death.

Police say the Felony Aggravated Criminal Contempt charge is resulting from Brown violating a
Rochester City Court no contact order of protection issued against Brown for Grimes on May 5.

Police say Brown and Grimes were boyfriend and girlfriend and 204 Delamaine Drive was the home of mutual friends of both Grimes and Brown.

Brown will be arraigned in Rochester City Court on May 16, 2018 at about 9:30 am.
