Apartment unlivable after fire on Spencer Street Monday afternoon

The Rochester Fire Department responded to a call regarding a fire on Spencer Street that came in at around 3:50 pm Monday afternoon.

The fire was first noticed by a child, who alerted the mother. The house was promptly evacuated as the fire rolled out of the second story window. 

The fire department stabilized the fire in 20 minutes, but the surrounding area was closed for another 30-40 minutes.


One firefighter suffered burns to the knees. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for further observation.

Neither apartment is currently livable.

The Red Cross was called for two adults and two children. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
