This afternoon we could yet again add to the already lofty tally of 90 degree days that Rochester has seen so far this season. The numbers you see here speak for themselves and only add to the impressive status this summer has set for itself.
To make matters more interesting, a look at the August numbers suggests that this month is on a record setting pace to be ranked at least among the top 5 all time warmest Augusts in Rochester weather history. Through August 23, our mean temperature for the month was at 76.5°. That number should only climb after today’s warmth, which is quite impressive, since it is ALREADY 1.5° HIGHER than the warmest August on record in Rochester (Records date back to 1870)
If that’s not enough, believe it or not, there are signs that we are not done with 90 degree weather. Looking at some medium range modeling today would suggest the potential of another 90 degree day by the close of the weekend, and in addition to that, there are long range computer indications that would keep the 90 degree heat going into September!
The bottom line: don’t put those air conditioners away just yet. September may be around the corner, but an end to this impressive “Summer of swelter” is not.
