As part of National Boys & Girls Clubs Week, March 27 to 31, Boys & Girls Clubs of Rochester will hold special activities in its various programs throughout the week that highlight the many ways the Club is empowering the next generation of leaders in Rochester.

With the theme ‘Open the Door, Take the Tour,’ National Boys & Girls Clubs Week will feature the many ways Boys & Girls Clubs of Rochester is opening the door to great futures for children and teens in our area.

Activities at Boys & Girls Clubs of Rochester will focus on health and fitness, teens, academics and more.

Monday, March 27 – Monday is all about fitness and healthy lifestyles. Club members will engage in fitness games, including relay races, challenges and more.

In addition to having their daily healthy snack, Club members will have the opportunity to watch a cooking demonstration and get a nutrition education lesson from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. by Laura Held, a Community Nutrition Educator with Foodlink. After the demo and lesson, members can walk over to the Curbside Market next door at Jordan Health.**

Tuesday, March 28 – Tuesday is all about talent and teen voice! Club members will be encouraged to share their special talents with their peers, and members of the community, during a talent show at 6 p.m.** Talented members of the Rochester community are also invited to participate. Students will also have a special presentation on spoken word and poetry by Club staff member Anderson Allen. Boys & Girls Clubs of America recognizes this year as Year of the Teen Voice. (Talents must be submitted to queen.lockett87@gmail.com by March 23. Limited spots available.)

Wednesday, March 29 – Several activities will be centered around good character and leadership. Club members will be given incentives for doing good deeds, such as cleaning up the Club or helping a fellow member without having to be asked.

Thursday, March 30 – Academic Success will be celebrated Thursday with a special demonstration from our STEM (Science. Technology. Engineering. Math) Club and various trivia games, reading exercises and more.

The fun will continue at 6 p.m. with an exclusive ice cream social. STEM Club members have been working hard to perfect different flavors of ice cream and are ready to share them with their families, other Club members, and members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Rochester Board.

They’ll also be premiering a special music video they helped create, where Club members sing and rap about Club programming. The video is set to premiere at 7 p.m.**

Friday, March 31 – Friday is dedicated to opening the doors to the community for a tour of the facility that celebrated a renovation and expansion just over one year ago. Individuals from surrounding businesses and organizations will receive tours from Club members between the hours of 2:30 and 5 p.m. Tours need to be scheduled in advance by calling (585) 328-3077 x112.
