It was officially announced on Friday that a new Aldi store will not be built on the corner of North Winton and Blossom in Rochester.
This was announced at the North Winton Neighborhood Association meeting.
The neighborhood association said the developers for the lot are considering putting either a bank, a fast food restaurant or a tire shop on the property.
Last year, a court ruled that Aldi could not move forward with the project because it had not conducted an environmental study.
The ruling ultimately put Aldi back at square one, and the company did not pursue any further action.
“We’re still very upset about Aldi because it was quite a business that was going in. They built a beautiful building but that’s where we are for now,” Mary Coffey, with the neighborhood association, said.
The association said no matter what ends up being built in the lot, they will work with the developer to assure the building’s fit within the urban-village look of the neighborhood.
