A Pittsford man is creating art out of broken trees

Local News

Trees from the March wind storm are now being made into mulch. But, one man from Pittsford is picking up trees for a different reason.

One man’s trash is another man’s…castle?

John Dempsey has been building the castle for the past two and a half weeks.

Dempsey says he’s always wanted to build a castle, and now that he has all the wood he needs he’s very excited to keep working.

And he plans to add a lot more.

“This is what old guys do they should have fun, there’s going to be a wall around it, then they’ll be stairs up to the castle and there’s a lot of detail that’s got to go into it,” said Dempsey

Dempsey has his work cut out for him. These broken fallen trees are doing more than just adding artwork to this neighborhood.

“You know people have really responded positively about it, I’ve met more neighbors doing this than I’ve met in all the time I’ve been here,” said Dempsey.

Dempsey says the inspiration for all of this came from a book he wrote for his daughters.
