So far this year, 42 people have died from opioid overdoses in Monroe County, according to a recent report.
The Monroe County Heroin Task Force reports there have also been 265 reported overdoses from January 1 to April 3. In the month of March alone, there were 85 reported overdoses and 12 deaths in Monroe County.
Monroe County is on track to easily surpass record overdose numbers in 2017. There were 766 reported overdoses last year and 142 deaths.
In 2016, there were 329 overdoses reports with 169 of them being deadly.
Last month, county officials released a training video showing people how to use opioid antidote naloxone. Wednesday, the U.S. Surgeon General recommended more people should carry naloxone.
