The National Toy Hall of Fame revealed the 2017 inductees Thursday morning.

The inductees are paper airplane, Wiffle Ball, and Clue. They were chosen on the advice of historians and educators based on success and the ability to inspire creative play.

“All three of these really capture the best essences of play,” Christopher Bensch, Vice President for Collections, said. “Social play, active play, creative play.”

“There’s enough rules we have in life that are made by somebody else and we like to give you the basics and then after that it’s up to you,” Dave Mullany, President of Wiffle Ball, Inc. said.

In September, The Strong’s National Toy Hall of Fame announced the 12 finalists for induction into the hall: Clue, Magic 8 Ball, Matchbox Cars, My Little Pony, Paper Airplane, PEZ Candy Dispenser, play food, Risk, sand, Transformers, Uno, and Wiffle Ball.

To date, over 60 toys have been inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame since 1998. The collection showcases some of the most nostalgic items around.

But no matter how old or young you are, there is a toy at for everyone at the National Museum of Play.
