2017 Lilac Festival kicks off

Local News

Wakisha Bailey is live at Highland Park in Rochester with a preview of the 119th Lilac Festival Friday on News 8 at Sunrise.

This year there is an important new rule — children 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult to enter the festival.  One adult can account for up to five children.  It’s part of an ongoing effort to keep the festival family friendly.

In addition to the stars of the show — the blooming purple lilac bushes — there will also be live music, and a celebration of Finger Lakes region food, wine and craft brews over the 10 day festival.

Friday morning there will also be a world record attempt to complete the longest hug relay beginning at 10:00 a.m.
