Two Orleans County Sheriff’s deputies have been charged with grand larceny and falsifying business records.

Sergeant Dean Covis and Deputy Thomas Marano were arrested following an investigation by the New York State Police Major Crimes unit.

Authorities say that between November 2013 and January 2015, Covis and Marano were paid by a private company that they worked security for, after filing false time sheets.

During that time, they were also working for the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Randy Bower says the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office is also conducting an internal investigation.

Bower says Covis and Marano are currently on administrative leave and will be subject to further action in accordance to the OCSO’s Rules and Regulations, the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and Civil Service Law.

The two were arraigned before a Niagara County Court Judge in Orleans County Court, and were released on their own recognizance.
