11 year-old killed after early morning crash in Seneca

There is heartbreak in Ontario County where police say a child was killed early Sunday morning in a drunk driving crash.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at Routes 5 and 20 just West of Geneva.

Investigators say a van being driven by 36-year-old Ali Russ of Geneva was eastbound just before 6 a.m. when the car left the road and hit a utility pole, and then a second utility pole.

There were still signs of the crash in the afternoon.

11-year-old Rickara Patterson was pronounced dead at the scene. 7-year-old Kiana Patterson, 4-year-old Nevaeh Merritt, and their mother, 39-year-old Aimee Allard, were all flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Hospital.

Kiana is listed in guarded condition. The two others were treated and released.

Russ, who suffered minor injuries, is charged with DWI, and police say more charges are possible pending further investigation.
