One of the men who escaped from a northern New York prison last year has been sentenced.
A judge sentenced David Sweat Wednesday to three-and-a-half to seven years in prison.
Sweat must also bay $79,000 dollars for damage that he and his fellow escapee did to the prison during the breakout.
During the sentencing, Sweat apologized for the fear he created to communities because of the escape from the Clinton Correctional Facility in June 2015.
Sweat already is serving a sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole for a murder conviction that put him behind bars before the breakout.
The other escapee, Richard Matt, was shot and killed by authorities three weeks after the break-out.
Two days after Matt’s death, Sweat was taken into custody at the Canadian border.
