John Hutchings of Fitness Edge Media discussed the workout benefits of kettlebells at ROC Boxing Tuesday on News 8 at Sunrise.

Boxing coach and certified Level 2 Kettlebell Instructor Dom Arioli and world champion kettlebell competitor Dana Chubb helped demonstrate the benefits of a kettlebell progression.

Hutchings explained kettlebells originated in Russia as a method of weighing crops.  Through the years the use of kettlebells evolved into sport.

Chubb used a 45 pound kettlebell to demonstrate a deadlift, swing, goblet squat, upright row and shoulder press.  The different exercises in the progression help build strength throughout the body, from the legs, through the core, up to the arms and shoulder.  You are also building endurance by keeping the kettlebell in continuous motion.

There are a couple of opportunities to see the kettlebell in action.  The Rochester Fitness Festival will be held Saturday, August 8 in Manhattan Square Park.  The following Saturday the Monroe County Sports Festival will be held at Ontario Beach Park.
