While most kids are focused on Christmas this time of year, one student at St. John Neumann School in Rochester wanted to focus on his teacher, Mary Carol Taylor.
That’s why Dominick Nevis, a 5th grader, nominated Taylor for a Golden Apple Award.
“It’s really fun to be in her class especially math because you get to listen to songs about it and play games,” Nevis said.
Taylor became a teacher after deciding to change careers and attending Roberts Wesleyan College.
She’s had her current 5th grade class since they were in 3rd grade.
They’re all boys.
“She has a way in getting them to do what she wants and does a great job in helping them understand concepts, math is something that’s difficult for most students and she has a great way of making it enjoyable and easy for them,” said Jackie Senecal, St. John Neumann’s principal
Asked why she loves teaching and moving up with the same class, Taylor said. “I love watching them learn and watching them grow every year.”
