East Rochester Pizza Shop Owners Likely to Rebuild

East Rochester, NY (WROC)–His own determination, topped with customer dedication and you have Frank Surace’s recipe for rebuilding.
“I want to make sure I rebuild the way I want to rebuild it.” Surace said. “A lot of my customers ask me when are you going to reopen? When are you going to reopen? We miss your pizza.”
Frank and Paul Surace opened the pizza and sub shop on West Commercial Street in East Rochester more than 30 years ago. It’s been closed since March from an explosion and fire in the upstairs apartment. “We’re home and there’s nothing going on at home,” Surace said.
Fire officials never released a cause. “It’s been stressful, yea. Three months, sometimes I don’t know what to do with myself.”
Surace said they’ve been trying to relocate in the village for the last three months. But, no rental space has worked out.
At 62-years-old, he considered retiring after the fire. But, he said making pizzas makes him happy. Owning a pizza shop has been his American dream and he’s 99 percent sure he will rebuild right where it all began. “There’s 1% that holds me back for financial reasons or something else but somehow we’re going to figure it out.”
Surace’s waiting on an estimate from a contractor. He hopes to begin demolition on the old building soon.
