Girl Scouts of Western New York is proud to announce Autumn Jeffery of Caledonia as a 2018 Gold Award Girl Scout.

Jeffery’s project was to build two Little Free Libraries to support the community, which has insufficient access to a public library. Caledonia Library has limited hours and the nearby town of York does not have a public library at all.

Jeffery researched the project and collected donations of building materials and books, as well as met with local businesses to find a location to put Little Free Library locations.

Jeffery sorted the donated books, built and assembled the libraries herself, and installed one at the Cal-Mum Elementary School and the other at the York Elementary School where she gave a speech about citizenship.

“I am proud to be a Gold Award Girl Scout. But to me, the real reward in all of this, is that I have made a positive impact in my community and I have helped others,” Jeffrey said.

Jeffery has been a Girl Scout for 13 years. Jeffery will receive her Gold Award at the Gold Award Ceremony in June 2018.

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout can earn.
