The 2018 New York State Teacher of the Year was named Tuesday nnd he happens to be from Brockport.
Christopher Albrecht, a fourth grade teacher at Fred W. Hill School received the honorary title of the 48th New York State Teacher of the year.
Albrecht will serve as an ambassador for teachers throughout the state and will the New York State nominee for the National Teacher of the Year.
“It’s a wonderful feeling and it’s one that I wish every teacher in this state could feel because there so many that deserve it too.”
Four years ago Albrecht received a Golden Apple Award for being a great teacher. He was modest then and not much has changed.
“My job is just to highlight the beauty of teaching and how there are so many wonderful teachers out there. and they all need to be recognized and believe in themselves passes it on to their students. ” Albrecht said.
In Albrecht’s 20 years as a teacher, he introduced technology curriculum into schools before the internet. He founded the Hill School Spelling Bee and the Yearbook Committee. He has spent his last fourteen years coaching high school baseball.
His latest endeavor involves helping fourth and fifth grade students with special needs build their confidence.
