The permanent headquarters for the AIM Photonics Institute in Rochester has officially been announced.
During a meeting of the State Photonics Board of Officers, it was revealed that the headquarters will be set up in the recently selected Testing, Assembly, and Packaging facility. It is located at the Eastman Business Park, on Lake Avenue.
The chairman of the Photonics Board of Officers explained why the site was chosen.
“The real meat of the work, the research, the prototype manufacturing is going to be done right here and so, people coming in to meet with what are essentially a small number of administrators are coming in to where the action,” said Chairman of the Board, John Maggiore. “It’s also more cost effective.”
Previously, other sites in Rochester were considered for the headquarters, including the Sibley Building and the Legacy Tower in Downtown Rochester.
“Meeting today – for the first time ever at the new home of AIM Photonic’s national Testing, Assembly, and Packaging Facility at Eastman Business Park – further cements Rochester as the national center of photonics. Today’s action is vital to meet AIM Photonic’s goal to complete the TAP lab space by mid-year, and the entire clean room space before the end of the year.”
