Memorial Day parades and events in Monroe County

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Memorial Day is on May 29 — and Monroe County has many events in honor of the men and women who lost their lives while serving the United States.

Below is a schedule of all the events that are happening in Rochester and across Monroe County:

May 21:

Town of Henrietta will have its Memorial Day Parade on Sunday at 1 p.m., with a ceremony following afterwards. The route will travel through Lehigh Station Road, East Henrietta Road, Calkins Road, and ends at the Veterans Memorial Park. The town says that everyone is invited to a picnic at the recreation center after the ceremony.

May 23:

Troop A of the New York State Police will be holding a ceremony to honor members of the Troop A region that gave their lives to serve their duties. The ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at Troop A Headquarters on West Saile Drive in Batavia.

May 25:

The 23rd Annual Flag Placement Event at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester, will be held on Thursday from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. Volunteers will place American flags on every grave within the Veteran’s section. Among those volunteering — the local Boy Scout Troops will volunteer placing flags.

May 26:

The Village of Victor will have a kick-off to Memorial Day weekend on Friday from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be local shopping and dining specials for those who participate.

May 28:

Godfrey’s Pond will be hosting a Memorial Day open house and hotdog/hamburger cookout on Sunday. Visitors will be able to take a tour of the land and get involved in some outdoor activities at Godfrey’s Pond from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Town of Irondequoit will be holding their Memorial Day Parade at 3 p.m. — starting at Cooper Road/Titus Avenue to Town Hall. A Memorial Day Service will be held at the Irondequoit memorial service on May 29 at the Irondequoit cemetery.

May 29:

ROCovery will also be holding a cookout at their Outreach Center, with food being served from 12 p.m. -1 p.m. They said the event is open to those with at least 48 hours of sobriety.
The Memorial Day Murph will be held at ROCovery Fitness. In honor of the late Lt. Michael Murphy of the NAVY Seals, participants will do a workout routine that consists of a one-mile run, 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 squats, and then finishing with another one-mile run.
The annual and virtual Memorial Day marathon will be held Monday. Participants can run in the 1M, 5K, 10K, 13.1, or 26.2. You can complete the run at any time in May or June 2023.
North Bloomfield Cemetery’s Memorial Day Parade will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the corner of Route 65 and Quaker Meeting House Road. The parade will go a short distance to the cemetery for a ceremony before ending at the North Bloomfield Chapel. The ceremony will feature a reading of veterans’ names, a wreath, and the 21-gun salute by the Honeoye Falls American Legion.
Town of Brighton will be having a Memorial Day ceremony at the Veteran Memorial in Buckland Park. The ceremony will start at 2 p.m.
Town of Gates will have a Memorial Day ceremony at the Gates Town Hall from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Town of Greece will have its Memorial Day Parade at 11 a.m. The parade will proceed down Long Pond Rd., Janes Rd., and end at Greece Town Hall Campus. There will be a ceremony following at 11:45 a.m. at the Greece Town Hall Pavilion.
Town of Penfield’s annual Memorial Day Ceremony of Remembrance will be held at the Penfield Amphitheater in Veterans Memorial Park at 10:30 a.m. The event will feature a variety of tributes to veterans — including a guest speaker, essays by middle school students and reflective music. The ceremony will also feature the traditional Presentation of Roses, where community members honor fallen military personnel by placing a rose on the Veteran’s Memorial monument stone.
Town of Pittsford will be having its Memorial Day Parade and ceremony on Monday at 10 a.m. The parade will start on W. Jefferson Rd., go through S. Main St., and end at the Pittsford Cemetery. A reception will be held at the American Legion.
The City of Rochester revealed the line-up of parades for the upcoming summer season. One of these parades is the Memorial Day Parade. The parade will start at 10:30 a.m. on East Avenue and Alexander Street. The parade will then move down Main Street and end near Fitzhugh Street.
Town of Victor will have its Memorial Day parade Monday — The American Legion James Cooke Post 931 and local community leaders will participate. The parade will start at the Victor Central School Campus, go through High Street, and end at the Village Hall parking lot. There will be a ceremony to follow at Village Hall. The Victor Fire Department will also be hosting a pancake breakfast from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. There will be a car show at Twin Elder Brewery at 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. as well.
The Vietnam Veterans of America will have their Memorial Day ceremony at 1 p.m. Monday at the Greater Rochester Vietnam Veterans memorial in Highland Park. The group says the ceremony will honor men and women who sacrificed their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
The Town of Webster will be holding their Parade and Ceremony, with the parade beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Spry Middle School. The parade will end at the Webster Rural Cemetery, with a Remembrance Ceremony starting at 10 a.m.
The Village of Fairport will hold its Memorial Day Parade at 10 a.m. The parade will begin on Whitney Road before traveling through the village and ending at Potter Memorial Park. A remembrance ceremony will take place at the park — featuring speakers, the reading of names of Perinton veterans who passed away recently, a wreath-laying, and a musical performance from the Fairport High School Band.
