The Hamilton Nationals defeated the Rochester Rattlers 10-6 on Sunday afternoon, securing second place in the standings. The Nationals received strong play from Player of the Game Kevin Crowley, as well as goaltender Brett Queener. The Rattlers drop to 4-6 with the loss.
Crowley earned a point on each of Hamilton's five first half goals, extending his consecutive-game point streak to 25. Crowley opened the contest with a streaking cut and finish from attackman Kevin Cunningham. Rochester followed with back-to-back goals, earning their first and only lead of the afternoon. Matt Striebel capitalized from behind the net, followed by a Steven Boyle to Kevin Leveille quick-stick goal. Crowley fed midfielder Jordan Hall for a power play goal, before finishing on an isolation drive of his own to end the quarter ahead 3-2.
Cody Jamieson received a cross-crease feed from Crowley to give the visitors a two point lead in the opening minute of the second quarter. Rattlers' midfielder Kyle Denhoff came out of the box and fired an offside hip shot past Queener to cut the lead to one. Nationals' Martin Cahill responded with a goal from Crowley, to head into the locker room with the 5-3 lead.
Hamilton strung together a four point run to break the game open in the third quarter. Jamieson hit teammate Jeremy Thompson for an easy one right on top of Rattlers' goaltender John Galloway. Garrett Thul then tallied his first two-point goal of his career off a feed from Joe Walters. With the assist, Walters continued his consecutive-game point streak to 22. Walters capped the four-point run with a left alley bounce shot. Rochester saw goals from Boyle, as well as rookie Dave Lawson.
Walters opened the fourth quarter with his second goal of the night, crediting the assist to Jamieson. Rochester's John Ranagan tallied the final goal, firing a deep lefty past Queener. Hamilton would walk away with the win, earning a 10-6 victory and their seventh win of the season. Seven wins ties the teams most regular season wins in franchise history.
