Terrel Hunt completed 18 of his 30 passing attempts and did not throw an interception for the first time since playing Tulane. He also rushed for 36 yards and a touchdown, his fourth rushing touchdown of the season.
Brisly Estime was the target of choice for Hunt, catching 9 passes for 62 yards, the most receptions by an SU receiver in a single game so far this year. His touchdown catch came from a pass by wide receiver Jarrod West, his first career throw.
Prince-Tyson Gulley rushed for 85 yards on 13 attempts, including a career-long tying 67-yard run. Jerome Smith ran for 62 yards on 17 carries.
The SU defense forced 12 punts, tying the most by a single punter on an opposing team in SU history, and stopped Wake 77.8 percent of the time on third down.
Cameron Lynch led the defense with five tackles including 1.5 for loss and four solo tackles. True freshman Isaiah Johnson recorded his first career interception and sack, finishing the game with two total tackles.
The team recorded two sacks in the game and six quarterback hurries to allow only 22 completions on 54 passing attempts by Tanner Price, Wake Forest's quarterback.
The Orange finally put points on the board with 8:58 remaining in the third quarter when West made a 15-yard catch, got past two defenders and put SU at the one yard line, just short of a touchdown. Hunt kept the ball and dove into the end zone to put Syracuse on top 7-0. Jonathan Fisher kicked the extra point, his first career PAT attempt.
Isaiah Johnson blocked a pass and dove to intercept it, setting the SU offense up on the Wake Forest 25 yard line. On the next play Hunt handed the ball off to Gulley, who reversed it to West, who threw it to a wide open Estime in in the right corner of the end zone to take a 13-0 lead with 6:06 remaining in the third quarter.
Syracuse is back in action next week when the team heads to Maryland to take on the Terps at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 9.
